Eligibility categories
Categories are optional labels for athletes that you can filter
events by. The typical use case: an event is open to “Academy” kids
but not “Part-time” — you tag the event with Academy, the parents
of Part-time athletes don’t see the event on their family page.
If your club doesn’t need this distinction, just skip it — events without a category requirement are visible to every athlete in the group.
Manage at /coach/categories.
Step by step — add a category
- Go to
/coach/categories. - Type a label (e.g.
Academy,Part-time,Race team) in the Add category field. - (Optional) Sort — a number that controls display order in
pickers. Default
0. - Add.
Step by step — assign categories to an athlete
- Go to the family’s detail page at
/coach/families/<id>. - In each athlete row, check the boxes for the categories they belong to.
- Save categories.
An athlete can have any number of categories (or none).
Using categories on events
When you create or edit an event, you can pick eligibility categories. The event is then visible only to athletes who have at least one matching category. Athletes with no categories see only events with no category requirement.
What happens when you change an athlete’s categories
- The change applies immediately. No notifications fan out.
- The next time the family loads the family page, only matching events are shown.
- Events the athlete is no longer eligible for don’t generate a cancellation — they just disappear from the parent’s view.
Archive, don’t delete
Categories archive instead of deleting so historical event data keeps a useful label. Archived categories don’t show up in the event-create form.
