If you're a coach and a parent
Plenty of our coaches also have a child in the program. If that’s you, you are using two separate apps, not two views of one app.
| Coach tool | Your family page | |
|---|---|---|
| Address | ts.onsnowlive.com/coach | ts.onsnowlive.com/your-family-name |
| What it’s for | Your shifts, attendance, coach notes, team messages | RSVPing for your own child, your household’s schedule |
| Home-screen icon | ”TS Coach” | Your club’s icon |
| Notifications | Shift changes, parent messages, event edits | Your child’s cancellations, time changes, RSVP reminders |
The part that catches people out
Notifications are per app. Turning them on in the coach tool does not turn them on for your family page. They are two separate permissions on the same phone, and iPhone treats them as two unrelated apps — because, as far as it is concerned, they are.
So a coach who has only installed the coach tool will hear about a shift change and hear nothing when their own child’s session is cancelled.
The fix is to set both up, once each:
- Add the coach tool to your home screen and turn on notifications — Mobile setup.
- Open your family page, add that to your home screen, and turn on notifications there too.
You’ll end up with two icons. That’s correct, and it’s what you want.
Telling the two icons apart
They’re deliberately different, so a glance at your home screen is enough:
| Icon | Suggested name | |
|---|---|---|
| Coach tool | Dark square, cyan mountain, “COACH” | TS Coach |
| Family page | Cyan square, white mountain, “FAMILY” | TS Family |
When iOS asks what to call it during Add to Home Screen, it pre-fills the name from the list above. Leave it as it is — that’s the whole point. If you rename both to “Team Summit” you’re back to two identical-looking things on your home screen, which is the problem this avoids.
Already installed one of them before September 2026? It will still be carrying the old shared icon and name — iOS bakes those in at install time and doesn’t update them. Delete the icon and add it again to pick up the new one.
We can’t work this out for you — so we ask
The on-the-hill checklist asks “Do you also have a child in the program?” Answer yes and it tells you what else to set up; answer no and it’s done.
It asks rather than detects because coaches are set up before the families are, so at the moment you’re reading this there may be no family records to match your address against. Guessing from an empty list would quietly tell every coach “you’re not a parent”, which is the wrong answer for some of you and impossible to notice.
Getting to your family page
Once the families are loaded, if the club has your coach email on your family’s contact list, the coach tool links the two of you automatically. Look for your family’s name:
- On a laptop — top right of the coach tool, next to your name.
- On a phone — More (≡) → your family’s name.
- Anywhere — Settings, under “Coach-as-parent linking”.
Tapping it opens your family page. That’s the address to add to your home screen in step 2 above.
Nothing there? Then the link hasn’t been made. Go to Settings → Coach-as-parent linking, type your family’s slug, and request a link. Every parent contact on the family gets an email, and any one of them confirming is enough. If you don’t know your slug, ask an admin.
Does linking give me extra access?
No. Linking is navigation only — it puts your family page one tap away. What you can see and edit as a coach is unchanged, and what you can see as a parent is unchanged. An admin cannot use it to give you anything either.
Which one should I use?
Use the family page for anything about your own child — RSVP especially. Answering as a coach in the roster view is not the same thing, and your child’s RSVP is what the head coach counts.
Use the coach tool for everything else.
